I first gained interest in photography when I was assigned to be the head photographer of my high school newspaper, "The Rampage". I was handed an all manual SLR, and a bulk loader full of T-Max black and white film. Being new to developing and printing for the first time, I had to gain respect for proper exposure in both the camera and the dark room. Since that early beginning I've had a passion for the art of film photography. Today I work with both film and digital media to create lasting images.
After those high school days, I became very active in photographing weddings; mostly for friends and family. Perhaps no other medium can capture and distill the powerful joy that is present during a ceremonial union of two people that love each other. I knew then, and still believe to this day, that a photographer's main job is to evoke an emotional response with every image.
While attending college I studied photography and continued to gain knowledge about the business. More importantly I continued to develop artistic technique. At that point I realized that it was time to focus on my true love, and Porter's Photography was born.
My personal and business goal is to maintain fresh creativity, and apply artistic technique to preserve the moments and beauty of life. In addition to photographic work, I also teach workshops and one on one lessons on camera usage.
I have been lucky to work with many excellent studio's and shops, including "Flolo's Kodak Imaging Center" in McCall, Idaho, and "Timeless Photo and Portraits" in Boise, Idaho. Experience with other professionals in this industry has helped me to increase my technical knowledge of photography, while making everlasting friendships with creative and bright individuals. When distributing such important content, it is absolutely crucial to have respectable, competent partner companies that you can rely on.
My photographs have been published in several local magazines, including the cover of "Idaho Weddings Magazine". In addition to being a photographer, I am an avid birdwatcher, and my works have been internationally distributed in the "World Center For Birds Of Prey Annual Report."
